Honoring our Fallen Soldiers
Memorial Day is observed in the United States to honor and remember the men and women of the U.S. military who died while serving their country. Originally known as Decoration Day after the Civil War, the holiday began as a time for families and communities to decorate the graves of fallen soldiers with flowers and flags. Over time, it became a national holiday dedicated to remembering all American service members who made the ultimate sacrifice. Memorial Day is also seen as a time of reflection, patriotism, and gratitude for the freedoms protected through their service.
